Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson says he wants to be re-elected in 2018.
In an announcement posted on social media Thursday morning, Watson wrote that he wants to lead projects like Zibi, LeBreton Flats, a new central public library and the redevelopment of the former Rockcliffe air base.
"Our city is in the midst of its most significant transformation in a generation, and with the support of the people of Ottawa, I hope to continue to play a small part in our beautiful city's bright future," he wrote.
Watson was first elected mayor in 1997 and then again in 2010 and 2014, after spending time in provincial politics as the MPP for Ottawa West—Nepean.
He also spent time as president of the Canadian Tourism Commission.
The next municipal election is scheduled for Oct. 22, 2018.
