Jimmy Fallon Recalls Spicy Chicken Wings That Had Selena Gomez ‘Throwing Up in Her Sink’: ‘Never Seen Her Like That’
Jimmy Fallon and 'Hot Ones' host Sean Evans commiserated about the chicken wing-fueled fight from 2019
Chicken wings nearly ended Jimmy Fallon and Selena Gomez’s friendship.
The late-night talk show host retold the daunting story to Sean Evans while on the latest episode of Hot Ones. In the Oct. 31 episode, the pair commiserated about an instance back in 2019 when the YouTube series’ host stopped by The Tonight Show to lead Fallon and Gomez through a spicy chicken wing challenge.
The story came up when Fallon took a bite of Da Bomb hot sauce-coated wing, an infamously hot hot sauce on the show.
“Oh no,” he said as soon as he bit into the wing. “I remember this. This is the one that killed Selena Gomez. Do you know we almost killed Selena Gomez?”
Evans, stifling a giggle, replied, “I remember vividly.” Evans continued to explain how he loves doing Hot Ones segments during Fallon’s show because they are shot in the middle of the program so the rest of the show is filmed with Fallon’s “mouth on fire.”
“You almost killed an American treasure, Selena Gomez,” said Fallon, who just celebrated the 10th anniversary of his NBC series, explaining through tears and coughing fits that he felt guilty doing Hot Ones on The Tonight Show. “Dude, she left and ran out. I went and knocked on her dressing room door. She was throwing up in her sink and I go, ‘Selena —’ and she goes, ‘Get the f--- out’ with a devil voice,” he said, mimicking a deep and scary tone.
He continued, “I’ve never seen her like that, spit was dripping out of her mouth and I go, ‘I’m so sorry. And we didn’t talk to each other for another three years.”
“That’s my favorite 30 Rock memory, ever,” Evans laughed.
At this point in the segment, the heat started to really get to Fallon as he complained that “things are coming out” and he was losing his hearing in one ear.
“I’m not crying I’m just thinking about me grandmother,” Fallon quipped in a fake Irish accent, as tears ran down his face.
Just this week, Fallon faced another tearjerking moment: not being crowned PEOPLE’s Sexiest TV Show Host Alive. The competitor lost to Mark Consuelos, as announced during the Oct. 29 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark. Consuelos’ wife and co-host, Kelly Ripa, revealed the first few winners from the 2024 Sexiest Man Alive readers' choice poll, including the Sexiest TV Show Host Alive 2024 winner.
Seth Meyers and Mario Lopez were also eligible TV hosts in the category but Consuelos came out on top, despite “pulling for” The Tonight Show host with his own votes.
“I’d like to thank all the other nominees, especially Jimmy Fallon,” he said with a laugh, “for putting that QR code on his television program.”
“I did vote for Jimmy. I'm sure it was very close,” he continued. “I voted for him multiple times. I think my family voted for him, but America has spoken.”
