Jimmy Fallon Suggests There’s Only 1 Reason Trump Might Pick Ron DeSantis For Cabinet

Jimmy Fallon joked that Donald Trump might be down to nominate Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) for a Cabinet job just so he can fire him.

“I read that President-elect Trump is considering replacing Pete Hegseth with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as his nominee for defense secretary,” the comic said on “The Tonight Show” Wednesday.

“When asked why he’d hire Ron DeSantis, Trump said, ‘Because it’d be really fun to fire Ron DeSantis. That’s why. It’s all worth it.’”

Trump is reportedly considering DeSantis for the role, amid intensifying controversy surrounding Hegseth, a former Fox News host who has been accused of sexual misconduct, alcohol abuse and financial mismanagement of two veterans groups he led.

Trump and DeSantis have been both foes and allies over the years in an on-again-off-again relationship that grew particularly tense during the 2024 GOP primaries.
