Jimmy Tarbuck has confirmed he has prostate cancer as he urged men to get tested.

The 80-year-old comedian admitted learning of singer Sir Rod Stewart’s diagnosis had inspired him to get tested and he is now undergoing regular treatment.

Tarbuck told Good Morning Britain: “Yes, I have prostate cancer. I’m going to try and beat it. All men out there watching, and all wives, get your husbands to go for the tests, I think after 50… you will be relieved and be with your families for extra years. Men are shy.”

The comedian said: “I feel great. I’m on the telly and I’m having a good time.

“What do I do? Do I say, ‘No I haven’t got it?’ Own up.”

He added: “I’m having injections and taking tablets and then I take a yearly cycle.” And he explained the cancer had not spread.

The father of actress and TV presenter Liza Tarbuck revealed singer Sir Tom Jones, 79, was his “mentor” as he went through the tests.
