Johnny Gaudreau’s widow Meredith Gaudreau posted a heartfelt tribute to her late husband in honor of the couple’s third wedding anniversary, less than a week after his tragic death in a bike crash alongside his brother Matthew Gaudreau.

“I never post this much but John deserves it,” Meredith wrote on Wednesday, Sept. 4, alongside a carousel of photos of she and her late husband together throughout the years.

“3 years ago today I became yours forever. One of the best days of my life, including the night we got engaged and the days we brought our babies into the world. The day I met you I remember saying to myself, omg I’m going to marry him. And every day after that kept getting better and better. I love you forever John and I am so proud to be your wife.”

Johnny, an NHL star who played 11 seasons for the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Calgary Flames, was killed last Thursday night alongside his brother Matthew when an alleged drunk driver crashed into them while they were riding bicycles in Oldsmans Township, New Jersey, near their hometown of Salem County, New Jersey.

Johnny was 31. Matthew was 29.

Higgins is being held in custody without bond, jail records show.
