Jose Bautista ends months-long boycott of Sportsnet

Perhaps Jose Bautista didn't want anything to distract from the team's strong play.

On the same day reports emerged the Toronto Blue Jays right-fielder had boycotted Sportsnet due to a dispute involving the broadcaster and rookie second baseman Devon Travis, he resolved the issue and stated "we're moving on."

According to the Toronto Star, Sportsnet never offered to pay for the Ted Baker suit that Travis purchased for a segment that aired on Sportsnet.

Bautista was boycotting Sportsnet because he believes they should have paid for the suit, considering the segment was their idea.

Reactions from fans were mostly been in support of Bautista, who they feel is demonstrating his leadership skills by standing up for his rookie teammate, who otherwise can't because of his status as a rookie.

Others feel Bautista is being petty, pointing to the millions of dollars professional athletes make.

Janice Tibbetts, a Carleton journalism professor, told the Star that Sportsnet made the right call in deciding not to pay for the suit. But the question of ethics remained a hot topic on Twitter since the clothier is a sponsor of the show.

Bautista is no stranger to controversy.

He's had his fair share of battles, both on the field and off the field, often drawing the ire of umpires with his sometimes subtle, sometimes not-so-subtle distaste for balls and strike calls and he's engaged in shouting matches with opposing pitchers.

This also isn't the first time he's disputed with a network, calling out ESPN's Colin Cowherd earlier this year for insulting the intelligence of Dominican baseball players.
