Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the Walt Disney Company's Emmy Awards Celebration in Los Angeles on Sunday, Sept. 15, the actor, 46, revealed that shaving his Covid beard made him look younger.

“I think it's just that I shaved really,” the Dawson's Creek says when asked about his youthful appearance. “Yeah. I mean, I am happy. I'm very happy, but I think it's that I shaved, I think I'd look a lot younger without a full COVID beard.”

The father of one also revealed that running after his daughter Juno Rose — who he shares with ex Jodie Turner-Smith — might be playing a part in his youthful looks.

“I think it's chasing around a 4-year-old,” the Dawson’s Creek alum tells PEOPLE. “I think that it keeps you young. “The gray hair might tell you a little different, but yeah, the rest of it is just, ‘Your face is very youthful. You seem happy.’”

The proud dad also opened up about how wanting to be near his daughter contributed to him accepting his role in the new medical drama Doctor Odyssey.

“Well, it was intentional, yes. It was very much intentional,” he says. “I just needed a break from being heavy all the time.”

He adds, “But also, I have a 4-year-old daughter and I really wanted to be in Los Angeles starting school. So the show works it out. So I'm able to take her to school every morning and get to play dad while still being at work. So it's kind of a miracle.”

Speaking about what he and Juno like to do together, he tells PEOPLE, “We're in a big Lion King phase right now, so that's good. And yeah, I mean, go to the park, sit at home, do arts and crafts. She's just awesome. She's just the most fun in the world.”
