Jurong East flat catches fire again, a day after 1st fire killed man
SINGAPORE — A day after a fire at a flat in Jurong East killed a 48-year-old man, the same flat caught fire again on early Wednesday morning (17 August).
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said in a statement that it was alerted to the fire at Block 236, Jurong East Street 21, about 5am on Wednesday.
Upon arrival, there was a pocket of fire in one of the bedrooms of the unit that caught fire on Tuesday. Firefighters extinguished the fire with a water jet. There were no reported injuries from the incident.
Fire likely started due to deep-seated embers: SCDF
SCDF said in its statement that it had conducted damping-down operations within the unit for about eight hours following the Tuesday fire incident, This refers to the wetting of burnt surfaces immediately after a fire is put out to prevent any potential rekindle of fire from the hot burnt surfaces.

The first fire on Tuesday had killed a resident of the ninth-floor unit, while another person who lived in the flat managed to escape before firefighters arrived.
According to The Straits Times, three residents from a neighbouring flat had to be rescued by firefighters, after clutter along the common corridor left by owners of the affected unit caught fire, blocking their exit path.
