Season 2 of the Sex and the City continuation was a marked improvement over its freshman run, ditching storylines that didn’t quite work (*cough*Miranda and Che*cough*) and introducing new storylines that did work (hello again, Aidan Shaw!). We’d love to see this upward trajectory continue, so we’re thinking about what we’d like to see happen to Carrie and company in Season 3.
We haven’t gotten many hints yet about what’s in store for Season 3, but showrunner Michael Patrick King did let it slip that Carrie’s beautiful new Gramercy Park apartment will be a source of storylines: “I’ll tell you, when I saw Gramercy, I went, ‘Oh, Season 3.’ The first thought I had was, ‘Who lives under her?’” (Will she be befriending another young hipster like Lisette?)

WANT: Carrie to date again
With Aidan moving back down to Virginia to be closer to his sons in the Season 2 finale, Carrie is single once again — and won’t be able to reunite with Aidan for another five years. We don’t really want to watch Carrie waiting around for a man to come back, so let’s see her dip her toe back into the dating pool. It was a lot of fun seeing her try out guys like Peter Hermann’s app developer George this season, and putting her back on the prowl with weekly dates could help recapture some of that Sex and the City magic. (Side note: We’ll also take all the screen time we can get of Carrie’s adorable new kitten Shoe.)
WANT: Miranda to fully explore her sexuality
Now that Miranda has moved on from Che and mended fences with Steve (at least platonically), it’s time for her to hit the dating scene as well, this time as an out and proud gay woman. There’s plenty of comedic and dramatic potential in the idea of a woman of Miranda’s age navigating the LGBTQ dating world for the first time as a wide-eyed novice — and after all the angst of the first two seasons, she could use a little lighthearted fun, too.
WANT: Charlotte to embrace her girlboss era
For the first season and a half, Charlotte felt a bit forgotten, stuck being an overzealous mom with no identity of her own. That all changed late in Season 2 when she took a job at an art gallery and began to rediscover herself… and we loved every minute of it. (Her newfound independence brought out the best in portrayer Kristin Davis, too.) In Season 3, give us more of Charlotte “slaying at work” and less of her running around town in a blizzard buying condoms for her teen daughter, please and thank you.
WANT: A more cohesive supporting cast
After a rocky start, new cast additions Seema, Lisa and Nya did find places to shine in Season 2, but they were still confined to their own segments of the show that didn’t overlap at all. (Case in point: We’d love to accompany this item with a photo of the three of them together — but they’ve barely shared the screen in two seasons!) Instead of just being “Carrie’s friend,” etc., we want to see these three actually hang out together and build dynamics of their own that don’t depend on the original trio. Seema, in particular, deserves more than just being Carrie’s sounding board.
WANT: More Samantha Jones (in any form we can get her)
It was a genuine thrill to see Kim Cattrall reprise her iconic role in the Season 2 finale… even if it was just for a couple of minutes. It reminded us what a vital role she played in Sex and the City‘s success and what this show is missing without her. Now we don’t expect Cattrall to return anytime soon (although we’d certainly take it if we could get it), but even an ongoing text chain with Carrie or a gift or an email would keep that friendship alive in our minds and stoke that all-important SATC nostalgia. Samantha played too big a role in Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte’s lives to disappear completely.
DON’T WANT: A Miranda and Che reunion
These two said it themselves: They were a trainwreck together. (A “good trainwreck,” maybe, but a trainwreck nonetheless.) Not only did Miranda blow up her life and ditch the still very lovable Steve to pursue a doomed romance with Che, but she lost herself in the process, becoming an indecisive pushover who we hardly recognized as the Miranda we know and love. Che actually works well as Carrie’s friend, and Miranda needs to find herself again at her own pace, so it’s for the best if these two steer well clear of each other.
