Justin Trudeau leads election rally for P.E.I. Liberals
More than 1,500 Liberals from Souris to Tignish gathered at Credit Union Place in Summerside Thursday night for a rally featuring federal party leader Justin Trudeau.
Liberals arrived by the busload from across the Island, with candidates from all 27 districts getting a moment in the spotlight.
But the federal Liberal leader — or as some called him — the future prime minister – was the main event.
"It was a great night, I feel alive!" one delegate told CBC News.
"I got a kiss from Justin Trudeau and it'll keep me kicking for six months. I'll be dreaming all night. It's a good time to be a Liberal!"
Trudeau rallied the troops for the current political battlefield on P.E.I., and reminded everyone there is another battle looming.
"Come October I've got another request for you," he said.
"You make sure that my friends Bobby, Sean, Lawrence and Wayne get sent to Ottawa with a strong mandate, along with people from every corner of this country."
Liberals are hoping Trudeau's visit will keep local campaigns energized through the lead up to the May 4 P.E.I. election. This coming Monday will mark the half-way point in the P.E.I. campaign.
Trudeau remains on P.E.I. Friday. In the afternoon he'll be at Vector Aerospace in Slemon Park, just outside of Summerside, where he'll give his only news conference during his visit to the Island.
