Kalin Mitchell's weather forecast for October 9, 2015

It'll be a busy weekend on the roads in the Maritimes as people head to their Thanksgiving weekend plans, but thankfully it doesn't look like the weather will have a big impact on them.

Here are a few things to watch for in the weather this Thanksgiving weekend.

Friday night and Saturday

Rain is moving into and through the Maritimes this afternoon and tonight. If you're on the roads tonight, you'll most likely be in it. The rain isn't expected to be torrential with general amounts of 10 to 20 mm. You'll want to be careful about reductions to your visibility and wet roads.

Most of the rain will be clear of the Maritimes by sunrise on Saturday. The exception will be Cape Breton which will see the rain taper to showers that could linger into the afternoon.

For the rest of the Maritimes, it will clear to sunny skies but quite blustery and cool. Winds will be from the north and northwest with gusts of 50 to 60 km/h. Most high temperatures will range 8 to 12 C and be at their warmest in the morning. Temperatures will fall in the afternoon.

Sunday

Sun and cloud along with scattered showers are expected on Sunday. If your Thanksgiving plans have taken you into northern New Brunswick, be aware that there may be some wet flurries early Sunday morning. Little in the way of accumulation will be seen and they will change to showers for the afternoon.

Scattered showers will move across New Brunswick and P.E.I. through the day. Nova Scotia will mostly see increasing cloudiness.

It won't be as windy as Saturday with winds turning southwest and blowing at 20 km/h, with gusts up to 40 km/h. Temperature highs in the low teens are expected across the Maritimes.

Monday

Travelling on the roads shouldn't be difficult on Monday. There may be some patchy fog around in the morning hours so you'll want to be looking out for areas of reduced visibility. After that, a mix of sun and cloud is expected across the Maritimes with temperatures warming to the mid-to-high teens.

Rain and showers are expected to return Tuesday.
