Kamala Harris calls for Trump to be suspended from Twitter after ‘civil war’ tweet

Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris joined Anderson Cooper 360 on Monday where she called for the suspension of Donald Trump's Twitter account. On Sunday, following last week's impeachment inquiry announcement, the president quoted a Fox News guest in a tweet that said Trump’s removal from office would cause a "Civil War like fracture in this Nation."

Speaking with Cooper on Monday, Harris said the president's tweet left her "speechless," and blasted Trump for equating his removal from office with a war that took place between American people over slavery. "It is yet again evidence of the fact that he is delusional in that he has a very outsized sense of himself as compared to the history of our country," added Harris

Explaining why she thought the thought president's account should be suspended, Harris said, "There's plenty of evidence to suggest that he is irresponsible with his words in a way that could result in harm to other people. And so the privilege of using those words in that way should probably be taken from him."

This isn't Harris's first time taking on the president's Twitter account. After this summer's mass shootings, Harris accused Trump of "tweeting out the ammunition." And, on CNN Monday, Harris continued to raise safety concerns around the president's words. "If he's not going to exercise self-restraint, then, perhaps, there should be other mechanisms in place to make sure that his words do not, in fact, harm anyone," warned Harris.

Democrats weren't the only ones outraged by the president's civil war insinuation. Republican congressman Adam Kinzinger called Trump's tweet "beyond repugnant."

But, in the end, Harris cautioned against spending too much time discussing Trump's tweets. "What's most important is we not indulge his delusions and that we bring him back to reality. I think the impeachment process will do that," explained Harris.

AC360 airs weeknights at 8 p.m. on CNN.
