Kamala Harris Debate Suit: The VP Wears Yet Another Pussy Bow Blouse

The Kamala Harris debate suit was understated, authoritative, and quietly stylish, and included a familiar element: a white pussy bow blouse.
On September 10, the vice president took the stage in Philadelphia for her first, and likely only, presidential debate ahead of the 2024 election, where she faced off against former President Donald Trump. Harris paired the white blouse with a sharp navy suit, pearl earrings, and a small gold American flag pin.
Election 2024
Harris’s campaign passed the TikTok vibe test with flying colors. Now it’s time to understand where she stands on key issues voters care most about.
The VP’s tie-front textured white blouse looks noticeably similar—if not identical—to the one worn under her tan Chloé suit during the first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last month. A few days later, while accepting the Democratic party’s nomination for president, Harris wore a navy blue suit, also by Chloé, which she once again paired with a matching navy pussy bow blouse.
Whether or not Tuesday night’s blouse is a re-wear from last month has yet to be confirmed, however the consistency could be looked at as intentional, both on the sustainability front as well as on the relatability one.
And although Harris has opted to forgo playing up glass ceiling rhetoric and her gender in general during her last several speeches, it’s hard not to wonder if the pussy bow was a subtle dig at her opponent. You’ll recall Donald Trump was famously caught on a hot mic talking about “grabbing women by the pussy” while appearing on Access Hollywood in 2005; that audio was leaked to news outlets ahead of the 2016 election, causing outrage. Women then reclaimed the term, wearing both pussy bow blouses as well as pussy hats, which are pink beanies with cat ears, in protest of his presidency.
At this point, we don’t know if Kamala Harris’s debate suit is also by Chloé, the French fashion house headed by new creative director Chemena Kamali. However, her preference for the brand has been made clear throughout her campaign. Kamali was appointed as the head of Chloé in late 2023, presented her first collection in February 2024, and has been celebrated for bringing back the house’s free-spirited femininity and boho revival. Her pieces have since been favored by a slew of Hollywood stars in addition to the VP.

Trump, for his part, wore a midnight blue suit which he paired with a cherry red tie.
While on stage, Harris and Trump had an animated discussion, moderated by ABC’s David Muir and Linsey Davis.
