Kanata Montessori School portable building damaged by fire

A portable building caught on fire at the Kanata Montessori School on Michael Cowpland Drive early Monday morning.

Ottawa fire officials received a 911 call from someone reporting trees on fire on Terrence Matthews Crescent near Eagleson Road around 12:15 a.m. Monday, according to a news release.

When firefighters arrived they found a fire at a portable building at the Kanata Montessori School on Michael Cowpland Drive, the next street over.

The fire was brought under control around 12:45 a.m.

It caused an estimated $50,000 damage and the cause is under investigation, according to fire officials.

Nobody was injured.

The school said on its Facebook page that it's open today.
