Kansas City man charged with sexual misconduct after allegedly luring kids with pet, candy

A Kansas City man faces charges of attempted child kidnapping, sexual misconduct involving a child under 15 and fourth degree assault after allegedly luring children into his home with a pet and candy, according to court documents.

Wesley McGlothlen, a resident of the Columbus Park neighborhood, is currently in custody and being held without bond.

According to court records, on Aug. 9, Kansas City police responded to a report that a child, age 5, had been lured inside the Columbus Park home of McGlothlen after he said he had a dog inside. McGlothlen then allegedly pulled the child’s pants down and sat the child on his lap, exposing the child’s genitals, charging documents said.

On Sept. 3, another victim contacted officers and alleged McGlothlen asked her if she wanted chocolate. She then alleged he pulled her inside, attempted to close the door and pulled her pants down before the child screamed and ran away, court documents said.

In interviews, McGlothlen allegedly admitted to “doing stuff” with children over the last six months, according to a police affidavit. According to the probable cause statement, McGlothlen allegedly said he had five or six other kids in his apartment, but told police he only pulled down the pants of the two children.
