With Kate Middleton making her way back to her usual schedule of royal events post-cancer treatment, royal fans are wondering why she's made a habit of surprise appearances instead of the strict schedule that they'd grown used to. Now, insiders explain that part of the reason the princess's schedule seems to be more unpredictable is that she and her medical team are managing her "stress levels" as she navigates her health in the wake of her treatment.

"Kate loves reconnecting with the community and representing her family, but she’s also trying to find a balance between her duties and personal well-being," a royal insider told Us Weekly. "She appreciates the sense of purpose but wants to ensure her stress levels don't get [too high]."

Christopher Andersen, a royal expert, added that Middleton is prioritizing her mental health as she considers what appearances she'll be making and how she splits her time between her family, her charities, and the things she has to do as a senior royal.

"Kate has a lot more energy than she did even a few weeks ago," he said. "She's tremendously relieved that the treatments seem to have worked and she can call herself cancer-free, but she's not taking anything for granted. She's following doctor's orders...[It's] baby steps."

A second source confirmed that the duchess's energy levels can shift, saying, "She loves the work, but it can be tiring."

Anderson told royal fans to be patient as they wait for Middleton to be back to her usual grind.

"Kate has been [doing this] for some time but is not yet back to full strength," Andersen finished. "It will be some time—certainly months—before we see her plunge headlong into a full-time schedule."
