What Kate Middleton and Prince William 'realized' about their marriage amid 'hurtful' cheating rumors

Kate Middleton and Prince William are "still going strong" following rumors earlier this year that William had an affair with Kate's friend, Rose Hanbury.

This spring, the Duke of Cambridge's lawyers reportedly threatened legal action against the tabloid, In Touch, after it reported that he had cheated on his wife of eight years. Though the palace didn't even merit the rumors with a response, insiders told Us Weekly that the couple had to "examine their relationship" amid the speculation.

"Kate finds the rumors hurtful, obviously, and hates the thought that one day her children will be able to read about them online," a source said. "It forced her and William to sit back and examine their relationship, which they realized they should have been doing more often."

William and Kate share children Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 1, and have been married since April 2011. This is the first time that they had been hit by rumors of infidelity, which "didn't go down well with Kate," another source claimed.

At the end of the day, the couple apparently didn't let the allegations affect them too much, though they did use the controversy as a reminder to continue to focus on maintaining their strong marriage.

"[They are] determined to pull through it and are doing a great job at getting their marriage back on track again," the second source explained. "It’s not unusual to have a few hiccups in a marriage, especially after eight years, and Kate and William are no different. They’re still going strong. Regardless of their ups and downs, they love each other dearly and their kids are the most important thing in their lives."
