9 times Kate Middleton matched her outfit with the Queen's
The public have always had a long-held fascination with royal women and their wardrobes. From exclusive events to weddings, the Duchesses' and Queen Elizabeth II's outfits often become talking points in their own right.
As one of the most senior working royals, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (AKA Kate Middleton) never puts a foot wrong in the style department and her effortless transition from royal bride-to-be, to Duchess and future Queen Consort has largely been in part, thanks to her perfectly put-together outfits.
Kate is known to put a great deal of care and consideration into each look, whether that means wearing a symbolic pin on a royal tour or purposely re-creating one of Princess Diana's many iconic looks.
It's all in the details for the Duchess, who recently started dressing more conservatively as she steps up her role in preparation for her future as Queen. That means longer hemlines, polished suits and more regal jewel tones.
But, if there is one thing the public loves even more than seeing Kate out and about in another ah-mazing look, it is her rare public appearances with her majesty the Queen.
While there have been less than thirty public appearances of the pair throughout the past decade, the two royal women have formed a very close bond, which is reflected in their complementary outfit choices on joint engagements.
As former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond tells The Standard, “I think she [The Queen] admires the way that Catherine - as known in royal circles - has adapted to the job of being a Queen-in-waiting.”
While public appearances together may be rare, we have no doubt that Kate intentionally matches her outfits to compliment the Queen's wardrobe on public engagements.
For example, it looks like the fact that both the Queen and Kate wore the same shade of periwinkle blue at Royal Ascot was more than just a coincidence:
Twinning with the Queen can be interpreted as a clear symbol of unity and Kate's seniority in the family, as she prepares for her future role.
In that vein, here are the royal duo's most memorable matching outfits to date...

And again, in coordinating buttery pastel tones at the Trooping The Colour:
Plus, the pair dressed appropriately sombre in black at the annual Remembrance Sunday service:
How about these matching monotone looks, and floral hats, for Princess Eugenie's 2019 wedding?
Twinning in blue for family Easter Service at St George's Chapel in Windsor:
Who could forget when they turned out in turquoise for the Trooping The Colour back in 2018?
Or when the pair wore different but harmonious shades of blue to watch the flyover celebrating the centenary of the RAF in 2018:
Last, but not least, is one of their first public appearances together in 2012. Despite the duo contrasting in green and pink, their looks were tied together with black detailed accessories, including hats, shoes, gloves, buttons, bags and a belt:
