Kate Middleton's Surgery Recovery and Photo Controversy: Everything to Know
Following Kensington Palace announcement on Jan. 17 that Kate Middleton had undergone a "planned abdominal surgery" and would not take part in royal duties until after Easter, speculation about her health began to brew on social media. The online chatter about the Princess of Wales, 42, turned into major controversy when the palace released a family photo for Mother's Day in the U.K. on March 10.
Less than 12 hours after the image was released, news agencies — including the Associated Press, Reuters and the AFP — removed the photo from their news libraries, saying they were concerned that it was a "manipulated" image. The following day, Kate issued an apology, explaining that she "occasionally experiment[s] with editing." However, the incident didn't calm public discussion about the public's trust in the monarchy.
