Katie Holmes Is Bringing Back This ’70s Sunglasses Trend

You’ve probably seen a photo of Katie Holmes recently. Fall appears to be her season, what with the famous cashmere bra ushering in the season last year and her newfound boyfriend, complete with PDA, this year. Holmes is always photographed out and about, but this transitional time of the year seems to be when she makes headlines left and right. Maybe that explains why she’s constantly re-wearing oversized sunglasses.

Tiny sunglasses were fun, but they’re too conspicuous. You can’t hide behind lenses that are as big as a fingernail, and you certainly can’t hide behind them when you’re a famous celebrity. Also, in 2020, you ideally want to cover up as much of your face as possible, which, like face masks, makes big sunglasses another trend you never saw coming. Don’t worry if you’ve forgotten about them — Holmes is here to bring the ’70s style back.

The actress has been spotted out numerous times in the past couple weeks in a pair of Westward Leaning Moore 04 sunglasses. They’re the perfect pair of big sunglasses — classic and simple, yet still something Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen would wear. (The ultimate compliment, obviously.) They’ll make you look mysterious, but in an approachable way because they’re not outwardly trendy or over-the-top. They’re perfect for hiding and yet somehow also perfect for when you know you’re going to be seen. And most importantly of all, they’ll get along just fine with the cashmere bra in your closet.

Holmes isn’t alone in experimenting with a sunglass style that isn’t cat-eye or micro. Sarah Jessica Parker has also been pushing the limits of sunglasses trends these days. Though her most recent pair featured blue lenses, she’s also been spotted in an oversized pair by Westward Leaning called the Vibe 02. The style is reminiscent of goggles, which means they’re is exactly what you need this year.

Even if summer is coming to an end, sunglass season is truly forever (just ask Anna Wintour). And Holmes proves that the oversized trend looks just as good now as it did before micro-mania hit. If anything, they’re definitely easier to wear on top of a mask.
