TV personality Kelly Ripa recently revealed that she hasn't had alcohol for over two years. The Live With Kelly and Ryan host let audiences in on the surprising tidbit during Monday's show while discussing declining wine sales in the USA. Ripa joked that she started a no-drinking trend that is clearly taking off.

“They’re saying that Americans bought less wine last year," Ripa said. "It’s the first drop in a quarter of a century. Now, I believe this is because I quit drinking, that I caused this dip. I have influenced the market.”

Ripa, 49, then added, “I’m not saying I’ve driven people [out of drinking alcohol], I’m saying I stopped buying wine and there’s a […] dip.”

Ripa didn't give an exact reason as to why she quit drinking, but she did reveal that she made the decision to give up alcohol around the time that co-host Ryan Seacrest joined the show back in 2017 — something Seacrest joked about.

“I started the show and she quit drinking," Seacrest said. "What does that tell you?” To which Ripa responded, “Exactly. It’s amazing.”

Ripa has been known to be extremely health-conscious, including working out regularly and following an alkaline diet. The diet involves only eating foods that are low in acid such as fruits, nuts, legumes, and vegetables, and avoiding acidic foods like meat, eggs, and dairy. The Alkaline diet also calls for a very limited consumption of alcohol, which could account for Ripa's decision to quit drinking altogether.

Ripa previously said she started the diet after suffering a few injuries and has had noticeable improvements ever since.

"It has changed my life," she said on Live With Kelly and Ryan. "I swear I think it's responsible for me not being in pain."

In an interview with People in 2015, Ripa said that she does still allow herself a few treats that aren't alkaline diet approved, the most important of which is her daily coffee.

“I like to drink coffee,” Ripa said. “I occasionally will have fish. The alkaline diet is primarily a vegan diet, but I like cream in my coffee. I like to have a glass of wine. So I don’t adhere to it strictly, but when I do a cleanse, it will be seven days, and then I go back to my normal life. But my normal life, like I said, is not that different than the alkaline cleanse.”
