Kelowna family's kids share same names as Royal children Prince George, Princess Charlotte

While the world celebrates the birth of Princess Charlotte, a B.C. family is dealing with some newfound notoriety because their two children share the same names of the Royal children.

"We went through it already once with George," said Laura Lebbon, who is originally from England and now lives in Kelowna.

"As soon as the news came out that there was a baby girl we kind of hung our heads and thought 'OK, it's going to be Charlotte, isn't it? It's going to happen all over again.' And indeed it did."

Princess Charlotte is the second child of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge Katherine. She was born on May 2.

Lebbon says it's a fun coincidence and has received lots of texts and Facebook messages from her friends and family in Canada and the United Kingdom.

"It's been interesting to see the different reactions from the different nations because I think all the Brits are consoling us ... whereas the Canadians are like 'Oh my god, it's so funny. You guys have the same name as the Royals.'"

"We are going to be the token British friends who live in Canada whose children are also named George and Charlotte."

Radio West host Rebecca Zandbergen asked Lebbon if she would move away from traditional English names if she had another baby.

"One of my other favourite girl's name is Kate, but I think that's taking it a bit too far."

Lebbon fears her children will never hear the end of it.

"For their sakes I hope it's not something that follows them around for the rest of their lives."
