KENORA — Ontario Provincial Police in Kenora are reminding residents and visitors to be cautious of ice conditions.

In a news release issued on Monday, Jan. 4, Kenora OPP said they recently noticed snowmobile and all-terrain vehicle tracks in areas known to have poor ice conditions.

With the fluctuation of temperatures, police say the thickness and safety of lakes, rivers and ponds may be impacted.

Police offer the following safety checklist to ensure a safe ride:

“No ice is ever considered safe by the OPP. Anyone who decides to venture onto the ice-covered bodies of water should do so with extreme caution, “ OPP Cst. Jason Canfield said in a news release.
