Kentucky Gov. Beshear and family ends two-week quarantine after contact with person who had COVID-19

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is officially out of a two-week quarantine after coming in contact with security who had tested positive for COVID-19.

The governor shared a photo on Twitter with his son, Will, outdoors with their dog Saturday morning.

"As of today I am officially out of quarantine after following the advice of the department for public health," Beshear wrote in the tweet. "We have tested negative for #COVID19 multiple times, which I contribute to the fact we were wearing masks at the time of contact."

He added: "Thank you to all who have sent supportive messages. We are very blessed."

Beshear announced on Oct. 12 that he and his family would quarantine for two weeks after a member of the governor's security detail, who had driven family members on Oct. 11, subsequently tested positive for the coronavirus.

"We're doing what those tracers ask us and others to do," Beshear said at the time. "We're going to be quarantining until the Department for Public Health says that we've completed what we need to."

Beshear comes out of quarantine as Kentucky continues to struggle with a coronavirus spike. Last week saw three of the five highest days for new COVID-19 cases in Kentucky, and the testing positivity rate has crawled back above 5%.
