Kim Campbell panned for wishing hurricane would hit Trump's private club
When you’re a former prime minister, you generally keep your opinions fairly neutral, and leave the colour commentary for political pundits and rogue MPs.
Unless, of course, you’re former Prime Minister Kim Campbell.
On Wednesday, in response to a tweet about impending Hurricane Dorian, Campbell made it clear which direction she hoped it was heading.
“I’m rooting for a direct hit on Mar a Lago!” tweeted in response to this post, on August 28. Campbell deleted the tweet on Friday morning following widespread backlash against her comments.
Campbell, who is Canada’s shortest-termed prime minister at 132 days in office, did stand firm on other expressions of her hopes for the hurricane’s target. The resort and landmark in Palm Beach, Fla., was built by cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post in the 1920s.
Well, we will see if Mrs. Post’s design can stand up to the assault! I know Palm Beach well and am sorry if it gets a big hit. I wish I cd believe that it wd shake up Trump’s climate change denial! Only today his admin has removed regs to limit methane- a worse GHG than CO2! https://t.co/zwkv87Exec

Trump, who will be in Washington, D.C., at Camp David during Dorian’s scheduled landfall, hasn’t responded to Campbell’s tweet. However other politicians and public figures on both sides of the border have jumped in to admonish Campbell for her insensitivity.
Sick & twisted-fmr Canadian PM wishes hurricane to hit Mar-A-Lago. @realDonaldTrump won't be there to get hurt, but many ppl, including service workers, families, etc would be hurt and property destroyed. Are liberals this hateful? https://t.co/5CyDsDmKrj

Campbell has long been known for being an outspoken individual, particularly when it comes to the current U.S. President. In January 2019, Campbell called Trump a “motherf***er” in a tweet, which was later deleted. She also suggested Trump was mentally ill in a tweet earlier in August, in reference to Trump’s stance on who should own guns in the U.S.
Nor should the Presidency! https://t.co/BPn8pbAzOD
