Kim Kardashian Defends Forbes Calling Kylie Jenner "Self-Made"

"What, because we came from a family that has had success? To me, that doesn’t really make sense."

Earlier this week, Kylie Jenner was named the one of the "richest self-made" women in America by Forbes, who noted that the makeup mogul and reality star was worth $900 million.

The term "self-made" upset some people, who pointed out that Kylie didn't exactly start from nothing, arguing that the 20-year-old was "born into extreme wealth and instant fame." Other people defended Kylie, noting that she is still a successful businesswoman, and that people should respect her as such.

Now, Kim Kardashian has joined the conversation, coming to Kylie's defense as well. "I really didn’t get it, because she is 'self-made' — we are all 'self-made,'" she said in conversation with Refinery29. "What, because we came from a family that has had success? To me, that doesn’t really make sense... I know so many people like that [who] haven’t turned out to be as successful as Kylie. If anything, I've seen the complete opposite."

Kim added that she was proud of her sister for making a successful business out of something that she was previously insecure about (most likely referring to Kylie's lips, as the youngest Jenner sister has previously talked about getting lip fillers as a result of insecurity).

She also explained that she nor her sisters have ever leaned on their parents for anything — except advice and guidance. "That’s how I lived my life with my dad [Robert Kardashian]," Kim said. "He never gave me anything. We might have the opportunity, but I’ve seen it go the complete opposite way. Nobody works harder than my sisters and my mom."
