Kim Kardashian Took Her Inner Circle to a Private Island for Her Birthday, and Twitter Users Are Roasting Her

UPDATE: October 30, 2020—Here’s how Kim Kardashian reportedly feels about the backlash to her island-side birthday party:

“Her birthday party was so much fun, and she had an absolute blast. She’s in a better mood with all her friends surrounding her,” a source tells Us Weekly. “Even though she’s getting backlash for taking her friends away, she doesn’t care. She thinks it’s because people are jealous. She wanted to celebrate turning 40, and she’s happy with where she’s at in life and knows who she is and is more confident than ever.”

A second source tells the outlet, “Kim doesn’t care about the backlash. She sees celebs have a birthday party on a beach in Malibu and it’s fine, but because she has the means to safely transport her family, she is torn down for it. The party was amazing. It was just family and Kim’s closest friends—really just her core group.”

UPDATE: October 29, 2020—Khloé Kardashian addressed the backlash Kim received for her private island birthday getaway. “I haven’t heard a lot about it, but I did hear people were upset that we went out of town,” she told Ellen DeGeneres on the October 29 episode of her talk show. “This year is a frustrating year—I get it. I think there’s so many frustrations going on for everybody, but also it’s her 40th, and this is something that she really wanted to do. For us, it was such a nice thing.”

ORIGINAL STORY:

Kim Kardashian West is catching some heat on Twitter for her 40th-birthday party. No, not the surprise 40th-birthday party her family threw that re-created all her past birthdays. I’m talking about her other 40th-birthday party, the one that took place on a private island. Wait, you didn’t hear about that?

Well, it happened. Kardashian West posted photos from it on October 27. “40 and feeling so humbled and blessed,” she wrote in the caption alongside several photos of her family and friends frolicking on an island. “There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter. For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today. Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment. After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time. We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more. I realize that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40.”

She also posted these bikini shots, presumably from the same trip:

On the surface, Kardashian West covered all her bases in her caption. She says her guests quarantined, they did multiple health screenings, she recognized her privilege, blah, blah, blah. But…we’re still in the middle of a global pandemic. People are losing their jobs and loved ones left and right. Even if she did ensure this trip was safe, to post about it is tone-deaf. Why not just…go on the trip—and say nothing at all?

Anyway, it didn’t take long for Twitter users to start roasting her, many co-opting the language, “After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.” There were other jokes too. Peep them for yourself, below:

Kardashian West hasn’t responded to the backlash yet. Maybe she’s still on the island?
