Kim Kardashian would like everyone to know that she has extremely high bone density and extremely low body fat.
The reality star posted a body scan she had done by BodySpec, a mobile scanning device that measures bone density and body fat to give a detailed full-body composition report, with her millions of followers on Instagram on Wednesday, August 4. In one of her Instagram Stories, she explained that the whole process took her only about seven minutes. Alongside the images of her bone scan, she wrote, “YOU HEAR THAT?!?!!! MY BONES ARE STRONGER THAN 93-97% OF PEOPLE.” The report also showed that Kardashian has lost a substantial amount of weight since May 2021, going from 25% to 18.8% body fat.
Body fat measurements are used to distinguish the amount of fat from muscle within the body, and are different from body mass index (BMI), which is calculated based exclusively on a person's height and weight. While BMI is still used by the health care system to sort people into categories of underweight, healthy, overweight, and obese, it is considered to be problematic because it does not take into account an individual's gender, ethnicity, or body composition and since it was based on the bodies of white European men.
The Skims CEO's extreme drop in body fat percentage over the last couple months probably has something to do with the intense diet and exercise routine ahead of the Met Gala in order to fit into Marilyn Monroe's iconic 1962 gown. To squeeze into that look, Kardashian told Vogue she lost 16 pounds in three weeks. “It was this or nothing,” she said, adding that she “would wear a sauna suit twice a day, run on the treadmill, completely cut out all sugar and all carbs, and just eat the cleanest veggies and protein. I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict.” So a month later, when she was inside the Ripley’s vaults for the final fitting and the dress slipped on perfectly, she said, “I wanted to cry tears of joy when it went up.”
In June she told the Today show that she has been keeping up with that lifestyle ever since the Met Gala. “Since then, afterward, I continued to eat really healthy,” Kim Kardashian said. “I'm down 21 pounds now. I'm not trying to lose any more weight, but I have more energy than ever. I cut out so much sugar—a lot of junk food I was eating, I didn't realize, like a lot of fried foods. And I just completely changed my lifestyle. It actually taught me a lot about my lifestyle and my health.”
