King Charles is continuing with his royal duties amid his cancer treatment.

The monarch, 75, met with Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, a day ahead of Hunt's announcement of the government’s financial statement to the U.K. parliament.

King Charles was pictured sitting with Hunt, 57, during the morning meeting in the private audience room at the palace. While royal family members have filled in for the King at various events since his cancer diagnosis was announced on Feb. 5, the meeting was part of the King's constitutional duty as head of state, according to the BBC.

The monarch traditionally meets the chancellor the day before a budget is presented, but it is usually held in private, the outlet reported.

Although he has largely stepped out of the public eye in recent weeks, King Charles has continued his royal work behind the scenes and was recently pictured at an audience with U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

King Charles has been primarily staying on the royal family's Sandringham estate since the palace revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. However, he has traveled to London for treatment as well as meetings on several occasions.

On Monday, it was reported that King Charles may visit Australia later in the year on what would be his first visit to the country as the nation's head of state.

The country is "preparing for a possible visit from His Majesty The King to Australia later this year," Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said, according to local media outlet ABC.

"The King has shown his compassion for Australians affected by recent natural disasters, just as Australians have shown compassion and support for the King following his cancer diagnosis," Albanese, 61, continued. "The King, Queen and members of the royal family are always welcome in Australia. My government is engaging with states and territories on options for a possible royal visit."

The Telegraph previously reported that a government spokesman told The Australian newspaper in January that "the Prime Minister enjoys a warm relationship with the King and looks forward to welcoming His Majesty to Australia later this year."

The reports of a possible royal visit Down Under came as Queen Camilla is taking a break from royal duties this week.

A source told PEOPLE that the Queen, 76, is having a scheduled week of private time which is usually carved out at this time of year and the break is not connected to King Charles’ health.

Queen Camilla's next scheduled royal occasion will be when she leads the family, in the monarch's place, at Westminster Abbey in London for the annual Commonwealth Day service on March 11. The King is expected to give a video address which will be played at the service.
