King Charles Reportedly Has an Ultimatum for Prince Andrew and Royal Lodge
The disgraced royal has two options, according to palace insiders.
It looks like King Charles is ready to get things settled with Prince Andrew and his living situation. After reports that Charles wanted Andrew out of Royal Lodge and offered multiple options for him, sources say that the king has given the disgraced royal an "ultimatum" and that he wants to move past the situation as soon as possible. Sources close to the king are calling the situation "the Andrew problem" and explaining that there are "only two possible options" for Charles to solve it.
The first solution is for Andrew to become financially independent and find a way to pay for all of his expenses, including both the maintenance and upkeep of his home and also any personal security that he'd want. The Mirror adds that Andrew doesn't have any income at the moment aside from his naval pension, so at the moment, there's no clear way that he could pay his expenses without help from the royal family or his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson. Five years ago, Andrew stepped away from his royal duties, but has continued living at Royal Lodge. His security team costs £3 million per year and is currently funded by the king.
According to insiders, "It is now two years into the king's reign and he wants the matter settled."
There was an indication of Charles wanting to move past the real estate drama earlier this year when it was announced that he would no longer be paying for Andrew's security detail. A friend added that insiders are also calling this "the siege of Royal Lodge" and that things are "taking longer than desirable to recognize the reality of the situation, even though it is clearly the most sensible course of action."
"It can be done tidily or untidily. It can be done with grace and dignity or it can be forced upon him," sources added. "It's all rather sad. But as things stand, life at Royal Lodge is set to become increasingly cold and uncomfortable for the duke. The only question now is when he will realize that he has become a prisoner of his own pride."
Additional sources explained that the second option is for Andrew to move to the "more suitable accommodation" of Frogmore Cottage, which is where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry used to live. The Mirror adds that Charles has "personally earmarked" the property for Andrew. Buckingham Palace hasn't commented on the situation yet, but Frogmore Cottage is currently vacant and ready to go after Markle and Harry renovated the property and moved to California.
