Pedestrian struck in Kingston hit and run dies

A 41-year-old woman has died after being struck by an SUV in a hit and run Thursday evening in Kingston, Ont.

Emergency responders were called to Princess Street just west of Midland Avenue around 7:20 p.m., where they found the injured woman.

She was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was treated in intensive care for 14 hours before she died Friday morning, the Kingston Police Service said today in a statement.

Kingston police believe a grey or silver SUV was travelling east on Princess Street approaching Midland Avenue when it struck the woman. The driver didn't stop to help and left the scene, police said.

Police said Friday that they had narrowed down the model of the wanted SUV, based on debris from the headlight assembly left at the scene, to a Chevrolet Tahoe, a GMC Yukon or a Cadillac Escalade from either the late 1990s or early 2000s.

SUV likely damaged

Video from a surveillance camera at a McDonald's restaurant at Princess and Midland also showed an SUV police believe was involved in the collision. Police believe the SUV entered and drove through the McDonald's parking lot, then north on Midland Avenue.

The SUV should have extensive damage to its front grill and headlight assembly, police say.

Kingston police are asking anyone with time-sensitive information about the suspect vehicle or driver to call them immediately at 613-549-4660.

Any other information about the collision can be directed to the investigating officer, Sgt. Darren Keuhl, at 613-549-4660 ext. 6148 or via email at dkeuhl@kpf.ca.

Princess Street has now reopened.
