A 49-year-old Kitchener woman has been charged in connection with a hate-motivated assault.

Police say they were called to the area of Mooregate Crescent and Hazelglen Drive in Kitchener around 4 p.m. on Friday for reports of an assault.

"The victim was approached by an unknown female who began yelling racial slurs at the victim. The subject then proceeded to push the victim and subsequently punched them in the chest," a release from Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) said.

The victim did not sustain physical injuries, police say.
