If you’re not up-to-date with the latest in beauty, we’re here to tell you that the Allure Best of Beauty 2020 winners have been announced. As you can imagine, we In The Know shopping editors have tried our hand at a plethora of products and there are a few favorites that overlap with the editors’ picks at Allure.

One cool thing about the Allure Best of Beauty 2020 winners is how diverse the selections are this year. With initiatives like Uoma Beauty founder Sharon Chuter’s Pull Up or Shut Up campaign and the 15 percent pledge, the beauty industry has been forced to open its doors to diversity. The winners this year included popular products from Black-owned brands like Uoma Beauty’s Say What?! Foundation, Golde’s Papaya Bright Instant Exfoliating Superfood Face Mask, KNC Beauty’s Star Eye Mask and the iconic Baby Tress Edge Styler.

Also, despite their mega influence, even celebrity brands earned their spot in the lineup of winners from the Allure Best of Beauty 2020 awards. Taraji P. Henson’s TPH Master Cleanse (which I’ve tried and swear by the entire scalp line) won for scalp treatment while the Victoria Beckham Beauty Smoky Eye Brick earned its flowers for Makeup Splurge. Not to mention, Tracee Ellis Ross’ Pattern Beauty Hair Pick is a winner under Best Tools.

Among all of the Allure Best of Beauty 2020 winners, here are a few that our In The Know shopping editors can definitely agree with.

Shop: Carbon Theory Charcoal & Tea Tree Oil Break-Out Control Facial Cleansing Bar, $9.99

“The Carbon Theory Cleansing Bar is mine and my sister’s favorite to wash our face. Formulated with organic charcoal, tea tree oil and shea butter, this super affordable soap really does prevent breakouts while also making me feel like my face truly got a good clean.”

“I love a good thorough cleanse that doesn’t strip the hair, and this Carol’s Daughter Wash Day Delight shampoo makes wash day quick and easy. Using micellar water to break down dirt, this water-to-foam shampoo takes little to no effort to remove build-up.”

Shop: Briogeo Be Gentle, Be Kind Avocado + Kiwi Mega Moisture Superfood Hair Mask, $36

“This hair mask is one of the best products I’ve ever smelt, Not only is the scent incredible but it leaves my hair feeling hydrated and smooth. I naturally have very dry and damaged hair so this paraben-free and sulfate-free mask is a no-brainer. Plus, I like to use it as a leave-in conditioner.”

Me and my sister love the carbon theory bar, we legit use it every single day. And same with the Briogeo Superfood Mask, it is so good.”

Shop: MAC Fluidline, $19

“I’ve literally used MAC’s Pro Longwear Fluidline liquid eye liner ($19) since the 7th grade, and I will never use anything else. If you want a liner that stays put all day, this is your best bet. And don’t be afraid to use a liquid liner like this — it’s easier than you think to apply with an angled brush.

Madison Alcedo, Senior Home Commerce Editor

“A few years ago, I tried using a gel liner and I can honestly say that it’s my favorite way of application when it comes to eyeliner. MAC’s liquidline in ‘Blacktrack’ is black enough to make a pop but not so black that it looks weird if it’s all you opt to wear.”

Shop: Covergirl Easy Breezy Brow Setting Gel, $8.45

“Covergirl’s Easy Brow in clear won for Best Clear Brow Gel. I’ve personally made a TikTok surrounding this product — that’s how much I believe in its magic. In seconds, I’ve gone from no brows to full brows using this in the gray shade and I’ve re-upped about three times ever since discovering this gel.”

Shop: Dove Beauty Moisture Locking Leave-In Conditioner, $6.99

“As someone with textured 4C hair, I have to say this is one of my favorite leave-in conditioners that almost no one in my own curly-headed sphere of friends don’t know about. I’m on my second bottle of this thing, and seeing as it’s only $7, it doesn’t break the bank.”

Shop: Juvia’s Place The Warrior III Eyeshadow Palette, $20

“One of my favorite things about Juvia’s Place is the pigmentation for their colors. Many brown and Black girls can attest that just because an eyeshadow looks pigmented in the pan, it doesn’t mean it’ll show up on darker skin. I never have to worry about Juvia’s Place not showing up — and these colors are poppin’!”

Shop: Head & Shoulders Instant Soothe Scalp Elixir, $16

“Let’s be honest: Most cosmetics brands that tout the ‘formulated for all hair types’ claim are lying or are at least not telling the whole truth. However, this Head & Shoulders’ leave-in scalp treatment has proven to both walk the walk and talk the talk, meeting this challenge with ease. As someone with a 4B hair type/texture and an easily irritated scalp, this product has helped alleviate any minor itchiness that may arise closer to my weekly wash day. Currently on my third bottle, it’s safe to say I’m a fan.”

Shop: Bread Beauty Hair Oil Everyday Gloss, $24

“Winner for Best Hair Oil, I’m kind of a stan for this newbie brand Bread Beauty’s Everyday Gloss. It’s gentle, it easily distributes onto curls and kinks offering it shine and moisture to the hair. You can even use it as a pre-wash treatment or on your body, making this oil multi-use AF.”

Shop: Ouai Scalp & Body Scrub, $38

Credit: Ulta

“Having soft skin is an obsession of mine and this product from Ouai does a fine job of ensuring this is achieved with one easy step. While the product is formulated for use on both the scalp and body, I prefer to use it exclusively for the latter as the scent, while pleasant (think of a bougie spa), can possibly irritate a sensitive scalp. The texture of the Ouai Scalp & Body Scrub is reminiscent of a pasty sugar concoction so it glides on perfectly on the skin and washes off to reveal glowing, gently exfoliated skin. Apply it right after you wash off your body wash, wait a few seconds, rinse it all off and you won’t be disappointed.”

Shop: Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Facial Toner With Aloe Vera Formula, $10.95

“The Thayers facial toner is gentle enough to tone even the most sensitive of skin (like mine). It prevents inflammation, acne breakouts and redness. Oh, and the rose petal fragrance smells like heaven.”

Jamé Jackson, Senior Beauty Commerce Editor

“To help combat severe maskne I’ve had from mask-wearing, I read that using toner each time you take your mask off helps cut back on the bacteria on your face from mask wear. I’ve been using Thayers Rose Petal Facial Toner ($10.95) religiously for the past few months.”

Shop: Mighty Patch Original – Hydrocolloid Acne Pimple Patch Spot Treatment, $12.50

“To also help remedy the maskne even more, I’ve gone through several packs of Hero Cosmetics’ Mighty Patch pimple patches because they are the only patches that have made a difference for me (and I’ve tried lots of pimple patch brands).”
