Know your zone: Residential parking ban takes effect in Winnipeg

City snowplows made their way onto side streets as the residential parking ban took effect Friday.

Graders and sanders were scheduled to clear snow and sand side streets from Friday at 7 a.m. until Sunday at 7 p.m.

Parking on neighbourhood streets under parking bans could net drivers $150 tickets ($75 if paid early). Vehicles may also be towed to a nearby side street that isn't impacted by the ban.

Vehicle owners can confirm their neighbourhood snow clearing schedule using the city's address lookup tool, Know Your Zone website (mobile app here) or by calling (311) or emailing the city at 311@winnipeg.ca for more information.

City schedule for residential snowplowing:

- Friday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m., zones A, F, I, M, P, Q, T and U.

- Friday from 7 p.m. to Saturday at 7 a.m., zones B, G, J, L, N, R and V.

- Saturday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m., zones E, H, K, O and S.

- Saturday from 7 p.m. to Sunday at 7 a.m., zone D.

- Sunday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m., zone C.

The city's declared snow route parking ban was lifted Friday morning at 7 a.m.

City crews were out two hours longer than usual overnight Wednesday and Thursday — from midnight to 7 a.m. as opposed to 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. — to deal with the excess snow that fell earlier in the week.

The annual snow route parking ban, which runs from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m., is back in effect until March 1, 2017.
