An image from Google Earth captured near Antarctica has some people theorizing that a deadly sea monster has been found.

The image of the “massive disturbance” in the ocean was spotted off the coast of Deception Island in the South Shetlands on Google Earth, according to The Huffington Post.

A YouTube video psoted Friday offers more proof, demonstrating measurements that put the entity measures at around 120 metres in length, which has prompted many to believe its the mythical sea monster Kraken.

Legend has it that for centuries a huge tentacled monster terrorized ships off Norway and Greenland, devouring men onboard, according to Metro.

The discussion on UFO Sightings Daily suggests that only the end part of Kraken is visible in the Google Earth image.

“This looks like the Kraken,” Scott Waring from UFO Sightings Daily wrote. “Maybe the stories about the giant monster of the deep are all true.”

However, it may not be a sea monster after all.

According to The Huffington Post, the waters in the area are known for rocks and the one in the image appears to be “Sail Rock.”

In further debunking, Andrew David Thaler of Southern Fried Science posted a nautical chart of Deception Island showing the rock’s location as well as a photo of Sail Rock.

“Sorry folks, it ain’t 120 metre long Kraken or an Underwater UFO,” Thaler wrote. “It’s a rock.”

It seems the oceanic mystery may have been solved after all.
