Kruger recycling facility goes up in flames

Firefighters have been battling a fire that started overnight at the Kruger recycling facility in the Montérégie area.

Flames and plumes of smoke could be seen for kilometres around as pallets of paper and plastics burned.

Kruger's recycling facility sits on a 275,000-square-foot lot on Hébert Street in Beauharnois. It process paper and plastics into bales and stores wooden pallets and paper products.

Firefighters from neighbouring communities were called in to help battle the flames. Officials said it could take up to two days for the fire to be fully extinguished.

There are no reports of injuries.

Highway 132 is closed between Highway 236 and St-Louis Road.
