Ky. Mom Accused of Killing Her 2 Kids Said It Was 'Accident.' She's Also Claiming Something Else

A Kentucky mom accused of killing her two children plans to use an insanity defense.

A motion filed in Bullitt Circuit Court on Wednesday, Sept. 11, said the defense attorney for Tiffanie Lucas plans to "assert a defense of insanity at the time of the alleged offense."

Lucas is accused of killing her two sons, 6-year-old Maurice Baker Jr., and 9-year-old Jayden Howard on Nov. 8, 2023.

According to the motion obtained by PEOPLE, the defense also intends "to introduce at trial expert evidence relating to a mental disease, mental defect, or other mental condition bearing in the issue of guilt and the issue of punishment."

The two boys were found in a bedroom at their Shepherdsville home. They were fatally shot.

At a hearing in November 2023, a detective testified when officers responded to the scene, Lucas walked out of her home and collapsed on the driveway of her neighbor’s property, according to WHAS 11, WDRB and WAVE.

After police took Lucas in for questioning, she said the incident "was an accident," the detective testified, per WDRB, WHAS and WAVE.
