Kylie Minogue has said it was “very odd” to revisit her Neighbours character Charlene Robinson in a new advert encouraging people to visit her native Australia.
The pop princess found fame as mechanic Charlene in the hit soap, a role she played from 1986 to 1988.
And she took a step back in time as she donned some overalls and rolled under a car clutching a spanner in the latest ad for Tourism Australia.
Looking far younger than her 51 years, Minogue wore her hair in Charlene’s trademark curls for the clip.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, the singer said it was “very odd” playing the character once again.
She said: “Oh my God, I have got a scrunchie on top of my head, I’ve got the curls everywhere, I’m wearing dungarees…it was very very odd.”
The singer said that signing up for the advert was a “no-brainer”.
"It is just three minutes of absolute love and dedication from our part," she added.
Entitled Matesong, the advert sees the singer urging people in the UK to visit Australia, highlighting its beaches, lifestyle and wildlife.
As well as her return to Charlene, Minogue is seen pulling a pint in a bar, singing to a cute marsupial known as a quokka and dressed in cricket whites.
The song promises people in the UK that Australia will help to clear their heads – and offers up some "sausage in bread".
It also refers to the UK’s tough year and suggests those Down Under could offer “a shoulder to cry on”.
Adam Hills, Shane Warne and Ian Thorpe also take part in the three minute advert.
