Landslide washes out road in Pierreville, Québec
Dramatic photos appeared on Facebook earlier this week after a landslide hit Pierreville, Québec overnight Monday through Tuesday.
No serious injuries were reported, and, miraculously, no homes were damaged, but a van was caught in the debris.
A section of Rang de l'Île road collapsed into the Saint-François River Tuesday, making it impassable.
That driver managed to exit the vehicle relatively unharmed but was taken to the hospital.
Nicole Dupuis, 65, and two of her neighbours were evacuated due to their proximity to the incident, La Ronge Northerner reports.
The slide occurred around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday and measured about 300 metres in length and 18 metres in width.
Local media reports several landslides have occurred in the area since 2016. Authorities are investigating the cause of the latest slide, but its unlikely weather was a factor, given the region has experienced below-average precipitation for weeks.
