The last 10 winners of Time Magazine's Person of the Year

Time Magazine has named U.S. President-elect Donald Trump as its 2016 Person of the Year.

The title recognises the person who ‘for better or for worse…has done the most to influence the events of the year.’

Trump defeated the likes of his presidential rival Hillary Clinton, Beyonce, gymnast Simone Biles and Nigel Farage to grace the 2016 cover and lay his hands on the somewhat dubious accolade.

Nancy Gibbs, Time’s editor-in-chief, wrote in the latest issue: "So which is it this year: better or worse? The challenge for Donald Trump is how profoundly the country disagrees about the answer.”

Over the last ten years, the magazine has picked politicians, activists and tech giants as its top influencers. And in 2007, the magazine famously picked a controversial person of the year – you.

These are the winners of the Person of the Year accolade over the last ten years.
