·3 min read

Swan Hills FCSS has quite a bit going on and a lot to offer the residents of Swan Hills in the coming weeks. Here’s a quick look at the latest events and programs:

· Swan Hills Wellness Fair – While the Wellness Fair is usually held in May, it will be postponed this year due to Alberta’s current health restrictions. The Wellness fair is now tentatively booked for September 14 with the hopes that conditions in the province will be conducive to this event at that time.

· Senior’s Week – Senior’s Week is the first full week of June in Alberta. Swan Hills FCSS will be delivering packages to the seniors living in Swan Hills that will include:

-A personal pie

-A colouring book for seniors

-Activities for seniors

-Updated information for seniors from the Government of Alberta

-Information about grief

-Further items may be added between now and Senior’s week.

· Volunteer Income Tax Program – The Volunteer Income Tax Program runs all year at Swan Hills FCSS. However, it is highly recommended that you finish and submit your 2020 income tax return by the April 30 deadline, especially if you have reason to believe that you may owe taxes this year.

· Swan Hills FCSS Is Still Taking Clients – While FCSS is not accepting walk-ins due to the current health restrictions in Alberta, they are still taking clients by appointment. Please call (780) 333-4119 to book an appointment.

· Compass for the Caregiver – Caregiving can be a stressful, isolating, and overwhelming experience. And due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many caregivers are experiencing added levels of stress and anxiety.

Our award-winning COMPASS for the Caregiver program helps caregivers balance their own well-being with the challenges of caregiving. This course is facilitated by someone who understands those challenges and is a licensed COMPASS Facilitator with the Swan Hills FCSS.

This COMPASS for the Caregiver workshop is a multi-session, consecutive course being held online. Before registering, please ensure that you can virtually attend all four weekly sessions listed below.

-Wednesday, May 5 (1:00 PM to 3:30 PM)

-Wednesday, May 12 (1:00 PM to 3:30 PM)

-Wednesday, May 19 (1:00 PM to 3:30 PM)

-Wednesday, May 26 (1:00 PM to 3:30 PM)

All sessions will be delivered online via Zoom.

The COMPASS for the Caregiver workshop has a $300 value. Thanks to sponsorship from Caregivers Alberta and the Swan Hills FCSS, this course is being offered for $20 to residents of Swan Hills and for $59.37 ($55 + the Eventbrite service fee) to participants outside of Swan Hills.

If you are a resident of Swan Hills, please call the Swan Hills FCSS at 780-333-4119 or email Carrier@townofswanhills.com to receive a promo code to redeem your subsidized registration and/or you are having difficulties registering for this program.

· Swan Hills FCSS Information – After COVID-19 has passed and life has returned to “normal,” Swan Hills FCSS will no longer be posting updates and information on Facebook. As a conscious decision to stop inadvertently encouraging people to spend more time on social media, FCSS updates and information will be posted on the Town of Swan Hills website (www.townofswanhills.com/departments/fcss).
