MONTREAL — Quebec's decision to focus on protecting hospitals, coupled with the chronic dysfunction in the long-term care system, contributed to many long-term care deaths at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the province's coroner said Monday. Health Department officials were aware that older people were among the most vulnerable to COVID-19, yet officials failed to give specific instructions to long-term care centres, Géhane Kamel said in her new report. "This indicates that even though we w

LEEDS, England (AP) — Leeds climbed out of the Premier League's relegation zone in dramatic style Sunday after Pascal Struijk's stoppage-time equalizer secured a 1-1 draw against Brighton. Struijk, an 83rd-minute substitute, headed home at the far post in the second minute of added-on time to lift Leeds a point clear of Burnley after Danny Welbeck had given Albion a halftime lead at Elland Road. Following Burnley’s 1-0 loss at Tottenham earlier Sunday, Struijk’s last-gasp goal ensured Leeds’ bid
RCMP investigators are looking for other potential victims of a former Moncton school teacher accused of sexual assault. RCMP said they arrested Paul J. The offences allegedly took place between 1987 and 1988, when Maillet was a teacher at École Champlain elementary school. The arrest came after someone filed a complaint in the summer of 2021. She's removing things like bright lights, loud noises, fragrances and smoke to create a parade that will be easier for neurodivergent people, such as those with autism, or disabled people to enjoy. Quiet Parade will hit the streets of Halifax on Oct. 15. It's going to be what Thomas calls "a vibrant, extravagant celebration," but one with low stimulation. Thomas is a disabled and chronically ill artist who lives in Cape Breton. Sh

MILAN (AP) — AC Milan’s lengthy wait could be almost over. Second-half goals from Rafael Leão and Theo Hernández saw Milan beat Atalanta 2-0 on Sunday and it now only needs one point from its final match to secure its first Serie A title since 2011. The Rossoneri could even clinch the title earlier if defending champion and fierce rival Inter Milan fails to win at relegation-threatened Cagliari later Sunday. Milan, which moved five points clear of Inter and has a better head-to-head record, play
