Lava Pours From La Palma Volcano as More Residents Evacuate

Lava flowing from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma led to yet more evacuations on Thursday, October 14, bringing the total number of displaced people to over 7,000, according to Spanish media reports.

Footage released by the Canary Islands Volcanology Institute (Involcan) on Thursday shows lava flowing from the volcano’s main cone.

Involcan said the footage was taken around 2:15 pm local time, by which point Copernicus radar imagery suggested the volcanic lava flow was covering 680 hectares (about 2.6 square miles). Credit: Involcan via Storyful
