Law & Order’s Sam Waterston Returns to Court in His Final Appearance as Jack McCoy — Watch a Sneak Peek!
Sam Waterston’s Jack McCoy has been summoned to the courtroom for one last case.
A new sneak peek at the Law & Order vet’s final episode, airing this Thursday at 8/7c on NBC, shows the beloved DA in a tense exchange with senior prosecutorial assistant Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) over the latter’s emotional involvement — a recurring theme for the pair, who often disagree.

“I think you need to step aside, Nolan,” McCoy advised his mentee in the above clip. “You’re off the case.”
Nolan’s question of who would finish the trial in his place was immediately answered in the next scene as McCoy cross-examined a witness on the stand.
The hour, aptly titled “Last Dance,” will see Waterston take his final bow on Law & Order as detectives investigate the murder of a woman in Central Park, with evidence pointing to a street vendor and a tech billionaire, who both frequent the park.
“In the face of extreme political pressure, McCoy takes drastic action to make the case,” the official synopsis reads.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Waterston would be stepping down from the flagship Dick Wolf procedural after appearing in more than 400 episodes since Season 5. Scandal’s Tony Goldwyn has been tapped to replace him as a new district attorney, though details on the incoming character have not yet been revealed.
“An actor doesn’t want to let himself get too comfortable. I’m more grateful to you than I can say,” Waterston previously said in a statement on his exit. “L&O’s continuing and amazing long run, along with its astounding come-back, is all thanks to you and to Dick Wolf, but for whose vision, patience, perseverance, and unique combination of creative and business talents, none of this would have happened. I feel very blessed. I hope to see you all on the flip side.”
