Waitrose has been slammed for selling a bouquet of autumn leaves for £6.

The item, titled "Autumn seasonal foliage" is part of Waitrose's "flower garden" range.

The bouquet's description reads: "Bring the outdoors indoors and brighten up your home with freshly picked flowers that reflect the colours of the season."

However, notice in small print warns shoppers that the leaves are only good for five days.

It was spotted by Twitter user Sharon Hanley, who then posted a photo of the item onto social media.

Sharon Hanley wrote: "Hello @waitrose I applaud you for trying to sell customers a bunch of leaves for £6. You are having an Autumnal laugh #leavesforlaughs"

The photo was met with derision on social media. Twitter Clare wrote: "A bag of actual leaves?? I’ll sell you a bin bag of leaves for 10p."

Another Twitter user was even less impressed.

AJ Thomas said: "This has got to be from the drunk Monday morning meeting category of ideas Electric light bulb."

Waitrose have been contacted for comment.
