Leamington park to be named after late councillor Rick Atkin

Leamington town council has unanimously decided to honour Rick Atkin by naming a park after him.

The councillor died in office last month.

He had previously served the town as recreation director.

Atkin was instrumental in developing the marina and the parkland around it.

Now, Robson Park will be renamed after Atkin.

"He was very key, and I mean ultimately key, in getting it developed in the fashion that it is today, that we all get to enjoy forever," Leamington Mayor John Paterson said of Atkin and the marina.

Paterson says the exact wording of the park name has yet to be decided.

There will likely be a plaque commemorating Atkin as well.

Bill Dunn has taken Atkin's place on council.
