7 Dead, Over 110 Injured in Blast at Seminary in Pak’s Peshawar
At least seven people were killed and over 110 injured in a blast at a seminary in Pakistan's Peshawar on Tuesday, 27 October.
Among the deceased, four were students between the ages of 20 and 25, Dawn reported, citing a hospital spokesperson.
"The blast took place in a seminary during a Quran class. Someone took a bag inside the seminary," a police official told news agency AFP, adding that the person who brought the bag had left the lecture hall before the blast.
Teachers, Young Children Injured
The blast was reported in Peshawar's Dir Colony. While the cause of the explosion has not been conclusively established yet, a senior superintendent of police pointed out that initial reports suggested an improvised explosive device (IED) with five kgs of explosives, Dawn further reported.
Those who were injured in the incident included teachers as well as young children.
No group has claimed responsibility for the incident as of yet.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra visited the Lady Reading Hospital, saying that the "focus is to provide the best possible care to all the injured". "Let us pray for the lives lost, and redouble our efforts to maintain the safety and security of this beautiful country, province and city," he tweeted.
