A boat crashed into a Florida Keys bridge Wednesday night — injuring several people and shutting down one of the two roads leading to the island chain, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency said the crash into Card Sound Bridge happened around 8:30 p.m., and Card Sound Road was closed until 10:18 p.m.

A Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesperson said the crash is being handled by Ocean Reef Fire Rescue, the department that serves the gated community of Ocean Reef Club in north Key Largo.

Adam Linhardt, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said at least two people were injured, and one person was transported to Jackson South Medical Center.

Card Sound Road leads to and from Key Largo from the mainland at Florida City. The more traveled road in and out of the Keys is the 18-mile stretch of U.S. 1.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
