LED sign brings complaints

SOUTH DUNDAS – The owners of an LED sign on County Road 2 east of Iroquois have been requested to comply with the current SDG County sign bylaw.

The South Dundas Waterfront Development Corporation, which owns a home at 11141 County Road 2 east of Doran Creek, installed a large LED sign on the property in the summer of 2020.

Transportation and Planning Services Director Ben deHaan confirmed that the County has received several complaints relating to the current operation of the sign.

“Our investigation has confirmed that the sign is not operating per the requirements of the bylaw,” he said. “The owners have been requested to comply.”

When asked what actions are being taken by the County, deHaan said “This issue is under legal review with our County solicitor and therefore I am not in a position to comment at the present time.”

SDG is currently reviewing its existing sign bylaw. That bylaw was deferred at the June 21 County Council meeting after the legal representative for the SDWDC threatened possible legal action relating to the proposed changes.
