Legal guardian moves senior out of facility into her home
A senior who was transferred to a health facility in Stony Plain without the consent or knowledge of his legal guardian has been moved again over concerns about the quality of his care.
Yvan Roy, 74, has a neurological disease, is disoriented and unable to walk.
His legal guardian and family friend Bev Williamson decided to take Roy out of the Westview Health Centre and care for him at home after he got food poisoning and diarrhea.
"He went racing out of his bed to get to the bathroom, slipped and fell and knocked his head on the sink and fell on his shoulder," she said. "When they didn't do any x-rays or stuff like that, I said 'this is crazy."
In December, Roy was moved from the Grey Nuns Hospital to the Westview Health Centre, a move Williamson says she would have opposed because of increased travel from her home east of Edmonton.
Williamson now alleges that Westview staff tried to give Roy medication that he was allergic to —an allergy she says was known by the staff at Grey Nuns.
Covenant Health apologized to Williamson for moving him to Stony Plain without her knowledge.
The health organization says Alberta Health Services is responsible for responding to Williamson's concerns, but AHS won't comment citing patient privacy issues.
Williamson says she's now working from home with the help of home care.
